The Venue at Horseshoe Hammond
Roberta Flack received a scholarship in music to Howard University. She entered Howard University at the age of 15, making her one of the youngest students ever to enroll there. She eventually changed her major from piano to voice, and became an assistant conductor of the university choir. She graduated at 19 from Howard University with a BA in Music.

Roberta Flack: who was a Washington DC public school teacher .she briefly taught music after graduation from college and now serves as the Chair of DCJF Education Committee. The DCJF Roberta Flack Music Excellence Program is an arts education initiative that encourages young people to get "jazzed" about learning. The DCJF Education Program offers free workshops, concerts, and master classes for more than 5,000 young people each year. Programs are held in partnership with DC Public Schools and Washington DC public charter schools, the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative Arts for Every Student program that includes the Sitar Arts Center. Sitar Arts Center provides multidisciplinary arts education to the children and youth of Washington, DC in a nurturing, creative community where young people discover their inherent talents and gifts. The Center fosters personal and artistic growth through the visual arts, music, drama, dance, digital arts, creative writing and early childhood arts education. We offer afterschool, weekend and summer classes to more than 700 students a year, 80 percent of whom come from low-income households. Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington that includes programs and activities to help youth of all backgrounds build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills necessary to become responsible, civic-minded adults. Plus the THEARC Performing Arts Center and others. The THEARC is a $27 million, 110,000 square foot , state of the art campus located in Washington, DC's Ward 8. With a mission of working to improve the quality of life for residents of Ward 8, THEARC is home to eleven of Washington, DC's best nonprofit agencies, all of which share the goal of helping children and adults reach their full potential. THEARC is a 365-seat community theater that is the only theater of its kind is located east of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC where children and adults alike can come together to expand their horizons through music, dance and stage events as well as hold community gatherings.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", debuted in the movie Play Misty for Me; it became the biggest hit of the year for 1972 - spending six consecutive weeks at #1 and earning Flack a million-selling gold disc
Roberta Flack sang the theme song to the popular television series "Valerie's Family" 1986, later called "The Hogan Family", entitled "Together Through the Years". This song sung by Flack was used for the show's entire six year run 1986-1991
